Today is a bittersweet day in the horse world. McLain Ward’s horse, Sapphire (aka Sara), has officially retired. I was really hoping she’d have one more Olympics in her. What a great story it’d be for McLain to come back from a shattered kneecap and for Sara to be 17 and them have one last shot at the gold, which they rightly deserve. Although it’s sad that she’s retiring, it’s great to look at all that she and McLain have accomplished together. Spruce Meadows, Pfizer Grand Prix, multiple Olympics… What a mare. Happy Retirement, Sapphire.
